Believe it or not, the name Hamlet was actually a last minute change. Throughout most of the rehearsal process the character was called Roastbeeflet. Finally a dear friend of mine who used to work in Vaudeville explained to me about the “ham of comedy,” which is basically an old showbiz rule about how everything is funnier with ham in it. He wasn’t wrong.
